ABOUT PLAYS ON TOUR
RCT’s PLAYS ON TOUR brings literature
and curriculum-based theatrical productions into Rochester
area schools, providing access to arts education for
students in grades K - 10. Our actors and productions
are flexible and can be adapted for most venues. Tours
can be arranged for groups of any size.
During RCT’s 2008-2009 season, PLAYS ON TOUR
reached more than 11,000 students from 40 schools in
Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Seneca, Steuben and Wayne
Counties.
Going into its 20th year, PLAYS ON TOUR remains dedicated
to providing high-quality theatrical programming and
accompanying educational activities to support New York
State Learning Standards. Study Guides, developed by
RCT professional staff, provide materials for teachers
to prepare their students for the performance, while
integrating the play’s subject matter into the
language, history, science and math curricula. Activities
are designed to:
- Cultivate students’ imagination and appreciation
for the written word, while stimulating creativity
and the desire to read and learn.
- Teach respect for the different ways people think,
work and express themselves.
- Promote self-esteem, self-discipline and responsibility.
- Increase student exposure to the cultural arts.
- Enhance school curricula and bring subjects alive.
- Foster literacy and help level the playing field
for children from disadvantaged circumstances.
