Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures

Based on the book Gooney Bird Greene by Lois Lowry

This production will open up a world of imagination for children,

as they realize that their own lives are as unique as the book’s

colorful character, Gooney Bird Greene. Students will cast

themselves as heroes in their own true tales of discovery and adventure.

And Then They Came for Me: Remembering the World of Anne Frank

by James Still

This outstanding presentation combines videotaped testimony of two Holocaust survivors with live actors, putting a human face on what might otherwise be just a chapter in history books and generating opportunities for class discussion as students confront moral questions that still threaten our society today.

Shakespeare Alive! A Midsummer Night’s Dream

by William Shakespeare; adapted by Rochester Children’s Theatre

Abridged, yet true to the Bard’s richly poetic language, RCT’s version of Shakespeare’s romantic comedy will enthrall your students while introducing them to history’s greatest playwright. The production skillfully retains the integrity of the text, allowing students to

experience the thrill of the story as well as its captivating imagery in prose and verse.

Nazareth College’s Schults Center Forum

Richard Scarry’s wonderful characters come to life in this musical by Kevin Kling and

Michael Koerner, produced by RCT and Nazareth College Arts Center. Huckle Cat

takes audiences on a tour of his busy neighborhood, and there is so much to see and

so many wonderful friends to visit: Farmer Pig, Grocer Cat, Construction Worker and

Fire Chief. Isn’t it wonderful how everyone works together to keep Busytown busy?

Narnia: March16, 17, 18 & 20, 2009

Nazareth College’s Linehan Chapel (in the Golisano Academic Center).

RCT and Nazareth College Arts Center present the most famous of C. S. Lewis’ The

Chronicles of Narnia stories – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe –in an excellent

musical adaptation. This heroic tale of courage and friendship is filled with

enchantment and adventure, and highlights the triumph of good over evil.

Approximately 60 minutes; recommended for grades two through five.

 

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast: May18, 19, 20, 21 & 22, 2009

Under “Big Top” on the Nazareth College campus

RCT and Nazareth College Arts Center invite students to step into the enchanted world

of this modern Broadway classic. Audiences will be transported by this revival of the

2005 critically-acclaimed, sold-out production of a “tale as old as time” that teaches

positive values.

Approximately 90 minutes; recommended for grades K through 12.

RCT’s Plays on Tour brings literature and curriculum-based theatrical productions into Rochester area schools, providing access to arts education for students in grades K - 10. Our actors and productions are flexible and can be adapted for most venues. Tours can be arranged for groups of any size.

4,000 students from 22 schools in Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Seneca, Steuben and Wayne counties.
 
Going into its 18th year, Plays on Tour remains dedicated to providing high-quality theatrical programming and accompanying educational activities to support New York State learning standards. Study Guides, developed by RCT professional staff, provide materials for teachers to prepare their students for the performance, while integrating the play’s subject matter into the language, history, science and math curricula.  Activities are designed to:

  • Cultivate students’ imagination and appreciation for the written word, while stimulating creativity and the desire to read and learn.

  • Teach respect for the different ways people think, work and express themselves.

  • Promote self-esteem, self-discipline and responsibility.

  • Increase student exposure to the cultural arts.

  • Enhance school curricula and bring subjects alive.

  • Foster literacy and help level the playing field for children from disadvantaged circumstances.
